Mainstreaming ecology in transportation planning and program delivery
Multi-Media Session 1

Caltrans in LA and Ventura County (District 7) includes SR2 and SR39 Routes in the Angeles National Forest. Forest fires are very common, and are followed by rainstorms and mudflows that can wash out the roadway. We have to repair the roadway and protect ecological resources in the forest: preserving special status wildlife habitat (big horn sheep, santa ana sucker, mt yellow legged frog) and not introducing any new invasive weeds. Biologist, Engineers and USFS work closely to make sure that the traveling public and natural resources are protected.
